Jr. Ironman 101

Each year the Cinch Timed Event Championship challenges 20 of the best timed-event cowboys in the sport, with five rounds of Heading, Heeling, Tie Down, Steer Wrestling and Steer Roping. But last year for the first time, they called ten of high school’s best rodeo athletes to the stage.

With a payout of $10,000 to the winner, there more than a title on the line. Last year Bo Yaussi claimed the gold buckle and he’s back in 2018 to defend his title.

“That was probably the biggest win of my career and my favorite event,” said Bo Yaussi, the inaugural Jr. Ironman from Udall, Kan. “It was the biggest stage I’ve ever competed on.” “The best part was probably that during the Jr. Ironman, all the big guys were down there encouraging us,” he said. “Right before I ran my last bulldogging steer, Trevor Brazile was sitting on the back of the chute and said, ‘Use your head.’ “Having Trevor Brazile giving me advice was pretty awesome.”

The event tests the top ten cowboys age 15-20 through four rounds of Heading, Heeling, Tie Down and Steer Wrestling, with a total payout of $20,000. The Jr. Ironman will kick off Friday and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and Sunday’s championship round will start at 11:00 a.m. A ticket to the afternoon Cinch Timed Event Championship will get you in to the Jr. Ironman, so you might as well come check it out!

But the fun doesn’t stop in the morning, Friday and Saturday night the Jr. Ironman contestants will be in the Cinch Fan Zone for the Cinch Kids Dummy Roping presented by Heel-O-Matic. Get to know the cowboys with a meet and greet at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Cinch Kids Dummy Roping presented by Heel-O-Matic at 6:30 p.m. The dummy roping will feature two age divisions and five lucky kids in each division will get the chance rope with the 2018 Jr. Ironman contestants. The winners will walk away with some sweet swag from the Lazy E Arena and our partners.
